FAQs

How does Repour work?

There's a packet in the stopper that contains material working continuously to remove all the oxygen from the air above the wine AND from the wine itself, completely stopping its deterioration. With the absence of oxygen, your wine stays fresh.

What's in the stopper?

The packet inside the stopper contains a proprietary iron-based blend. A reaction occurs between the iron and the oxygen inside the bottle to create iron oxide. As there are no other by-products of this reaction, nothing enters the wine, and a 21% vacuum is created inside the bottle. If you listen carefully when you remove the stopper, you'll hear the vacuum break. The packet is designed to not let material other than air pass; the particles/solids in the stopper (all FDA food grade) remain, and liquid does not transmit through.

How should a bottle with Repour in it be stored?

Since air needs to pass through the packet in order for the stopper to work, a bottle with Repour in it needs to be stored upright, as the introduction of moisture from laying a bottle on its side will render Repour ineffective.

I refrigerate my red wines to stop deterioration. Is that necessary with Repour?

No. With Repour, refrigeration is not needed to slow deterioration. If you want to refrigerate your wines closed with Repour, go ahead; it will not interfere with Repour's ability to perfectly preserve your wine.

How does Repour compare to vacuum pumping?

The key to wine preservation is getting rid of the oxygen in an open bottle. Vacuum stoppers attempt to pump out all the air in the bottle as way to remove the oxygen.

There are two downsides to this.

1) It only removes about 60-70% of the air, so there is still a LOT of oxygen left to damage your wine. Most often, vacuum stopping is conducted with refrigeration. Refrigeration does most of the actual preservation as the oxygen process that breaks down wine is much slower at low temperatures.

2) You are also removing aromatics of the wine (as opposed to just oxygen). As a result, wines stored under vacuum will often present as “duller” or less aromatic than the wine was when you first opened it.

If I pour two glasses of wine and close the rest of the bottle with Repour, how long will the remaining wine last at the same quality?

We've tested out to two months with exceptional results.

Does Repour change the taste or aroma of the wine?

Testing on red, white, and rose wines by consumers and wine professionals around the world indicate both taste and aroma are unaffected by Repour's technology.

Does Repour work on sparkling wine?

Repour does work on sparkling wine as it removes the oxygen with no impact on the CO2, but the pressure inside the bottle can cause it to pop off the bottle. We know people who are using it on sparkling wines now, but we don't endorse that use due to this risk. We're working on a fixture that will securely hold Repour on a bottle so it can be used with no concern.

Is Repour recyclable?

Yes, Repour is made of 100% recyclable materials.
